Behind the Silver Screen...

It’s hard not to be drawn to hidden places…the bits that are forgotten, that are only the privilege of a few, that hold the promise of secrets.

To break the monotony of unpacking boxes and cleaning toilets over Christmas (David Sedaris got me through that one), we decided that we would treat ourselves to some unwrapping.

Ever since our first visit with the estate agent, I'd been itching to get behind the steel panels wedged within the fire surrounds in the main living rooms.  We guessed that the Council health and safety officers had decommissioned the fireplaces at some stage (along with commissioning huge lumbering white radiator covers) to help 'de-risk' the premises. Our hope, of course, was that Edgar Wood had designed stunning Arts and Crafts hoods, cheeks and grates for the house, and that they remained intact.

Anything like this would do: Arts and Crafts Fireplaces

So it was that Dunc set to work on the panel in the dining room (the decorative hood on this one hooked us in).......
